NEW TRAIL ALERT – INVERLOCH TO WONTHAGGI
A great new 14km shared walking and cycling trail on Victoria’s Bass Coast is set to officially open, linking Inverloch and Wonthaggi through stunning coastal and rural landscapes.
The $7.7M Inverloch to Wonthaggi Trail will open to the public from June 14, with an official community celebration on June 19.
Featuring sweeping ocean views, rolling farmland, lakeside stops, and rest areas along the way, the trail offers something for everyone, whether you're heading out for a short walk, a relaxed ride, or a full end-to-end adventure.
It also connects into the wider Bass Coast Rail Trail network, opening up longer trips toward Kilcunda and Phillip Island.
Something for the winter calendar perhaps?

The Friends of Wyperfeld National Park has just turned 50! The Friends group were first formed in 1976 by an enthusiastic group of people who saw value in assisting and supporting the work of the Park Rangers.
Since its inception, the group has continued to strengthen and evolve.
“The Friends group has been meeting at Wyperfeld once or twice a year, and always on the King’s Birthday long weekend,” Friends of Wyperfeld secretary, Macy Fuller, said.
The work of the Friends of Wyperfeld group has included collecting seed, planting thousands of Cyprus pine seedlings, keeping several areas free of the weed horehound, the publication of a book about Wyperfeld, production of an award-winning DVD celebrating 100 years of Wyperfeld as a National Park, interpretative signage and more recently an app about, amongst other things, the flora and fauna in the Park.

HELP NEEDED to create the missing walk/cycle link on the Bellarine
Imagine a weekend adventure - catch the ferry from Melbourne to Portarlington, walk through coastal scenery and visiting wineries as you go, on off-road shared paths to Geelong, then jump on the train back home.
A proposed 7km trail link between Portarlington and Drysdale would connect the Bellarine Rail Trail to the Coastal Trails and help make this kind of adventure a reality.
If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, the Bellarine Bicycle Users Group have created a project to get council, business and community support. Please add consider adding your support.

Have you ever wondered what happens during a Police search and rescue operation for a missing hiker, adventurer or other missing person?
This a great, in-depth look into what happens behind the scenes of a search, written by Caro from Lotsafreshair. In her words: "This story is a work of fiction, based on my 19 years of actual search jobs with NSW SES Bush Search and Rescue (BSAR), formerly Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad. It first appeared in Wild Magazine #187 Autumn 2023."
