Bushwalking Tracks and Conservation -BTAC volunteers had a very productive weekend recently at Mount Buffalo, working on the Le Souef Walking Track complex, focusing on drainage out to the Sentinel and brush cutting out to Mahomets Tomb and Corral Peak.
All but the last 140 meters of the Hump Walking Track was cleared on Sunday, again focusing on drainage, vegetation clearing and some signage repairs.
We were excited to welcomed a first time volunteer (and not scare her off), while everyone else were repeat volunteers. One legendary volunteer chose to celebrate his birthday by joining the volunteer activity. Now that's a way to celebrate!
Thanks everyone that attended and Parks Victoria for the wonderful BBQ on Saturday night.
Remember to check the Bushwalking Victoria web site for future projects. We have jobs for everyone. bushwalkingvictoria.org.au/btac/

Friends of Mt Leura Inc are hosting the annual 4 Peaks Challenge, starting in Camperdown on Sunday 19 April 2026. All are welcome.

The walk starts at the base of Mt Leura in Camperdown at 9.30am. At your own pace we walk to the saddle between Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf where people can make the choice to take the Panorama trail to the trig point on Mt Leura and loop back to the saddle to then take the Sugarloaf trail to its summit. We then return to the start point and our cars for the 30 min drive to Mt Elephant near the town of Derrinallum which has toilets and a lunchroom. After doing the summit and loop walk it is back to the cars for the 35 min drive to Mt Noorat where again we complete the walk to the summit and around the crater rim. Most people have completed the 4 peaks by 4pm and many well before that. All the peaks have well maintained walking tracks but obviously have some steep sections.

Mt Leura Circuit: 2kms, prominence 130 m.
Mt Sugarloaf: 1 km, prominence 130m.
Mt Elephant 3.4 kms, prominence 170m
Mt Noorat 2.7 kms, prominence 120m.
Approx Total distance is 10 kms.

This event has no cost. At the end a great deal of satisfaction about summiting the 4 best volcanic peaks and craters in South West Victoria.
