UPDATE FROM Parks Victoria ON THE GRAMPIANS PEAKS TRAIL
Grampians Peaks Trail - Re-opening to day walking Monday 10th November (sections C3-C5 & S1-S2)
The central section and southern sections of the Grampians Peaks Trail (C3-C5 and S1-S2) will re-open for day walking only on Monday the 10th of November 2025.
This section was heavily impacted by the 2024/25 Summer bushfires and incorporates the trail from Borough Huts Campground to Griffin Trailhead (including section S1 –S2 Yarram Gap Road to Griffin fireline).
The Barri Yalug, Duwul, Durd Durd, Yarram and Wannon Hike-in Campgrounds and facilities will remain closed, as works take place to repair damaged toilets, water tanks, elevated walkways, tent platforms, shelters, and signage.
Please note:
Drinking water is available at serviced water tanks only, located at Grampians Peaks Trail Road crossings. Important: drinking water is not available at the Hike-in Campgrounds. Hikers must adjust accordingly and carry sufficient drinking water.
Toilet facilities are available at Borough Huts, Jimmy Creek, Kalymna and Wannon Crossing campgrounds.
Mount William Road is closed until further notice, and vehicle access to the Mount William Carpark is unavailable.
Please see the Plan and Prepare Guide for more information on how to plan and prepare, before accessing the Grampians Peaks Trail.
Please remember, this fire affected landscape is fragile. Stay on formed tracks and be mindful that walking track and surrounding forest conditions have changed.

Police are undertaking a rescue operation for an 18-year-old man who was caught in blizzard conditions near Mount Buller overnight.
The rescue is the second in the region in 24 hours after a 49-year-old hiker needed assistance off the mountain on Tuesday evening.
Police say conditions can quickly turn and are asking visitors to the alpine regions to be prepared for sudden weather changes. ABC Melbourne

A timely reminder that alpine conditions demand alpine preparation, at any time of year, even in the warmer months. You know what they say, it you don't like the weather in Victoria, just wait 5 minutes, and that cannot be more true than in the mountains. Bushwalking Victoria recently published an article on "what preparation for alpine conditions" really means: bushwalkingvictoria.org.au/alpine-walks-demand-alpine-preparation-any-time-of-the-year/. Certainly worth a read before you head up into the mountains this green season. ... See MoreSee Less

Whether you consider yourself a "4wd-wer", or simply a walker who likes to access more remote walks, we sometimes take for granted the access we have to the bush. Recently, Parks Victoria teams from Bendoc, Cann River, Mallacoota, and Orbost joined forces with clubs from Four Wheel Drive Victoria and volunteers from the Friends of Errinundra to reopen popular routes across the region, including the Snowy Icon Drive in Snowy River National Park.
A big thanks to all the volunteers who work so hard for the adventure community! ... See MoreSee Less

⚠️ Severe Weather Warning - Wednesday ⚠️
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Wednesday across most of Victoria. If you’re planning to head out bushwalking, please reconsider your plans. Strong winds, heavy rain, and falling trees can make bush tracks dangerous, and emergency services are already expecting a busy day. If you’re already out walking, seek shelter in a safe location and stay put until conditions improve.
Keep up to date with the latest warnings via the VicEmergency app or www.emergency.vic.gov.au
