In the words of Ambulance Victoria: "When a rockfall injured two hikers in the Grampians recently, a bushwalking group's quick actions helped emergency services respond fast."
We asked Liesbeth Long, President of the Central Goldfields Bushwalking & Hiking Club, and BWV Board Member, to share the story of their very challenging day on Hollow Mountain in the Grampians.

FedWalks 2026: What an Iconic Event!
What an absolutely incredible weekend down in Portland, hosted by Friends of the Great South West Walk - Portland! Over 200 walkers representing more than 40 clubs converged to explore the stunning Great South West Walk. From the forest trails to the coastal clifftops, the scenery did not disappoint.

From guided hikes and kayak-and-walk adventures along the Glenelg River to the Saturday night dinner and dancing at the Portland Golf Club, it was a weekend to remember!

Think you know Lerderderg Gorge? Think again.
Over this past weekend, washed-out tracks and high water turned a routine 5-hour preview walk of Lerderderg Loop for a bushwalking club into a 9-hour day out. That same weekend, emergency services were called out to rope-rescue four stranded hikers off a precarious 50m cliff face at Grahams Dam, while another walker had to be winched out of nearby Werribee Gorge by helicopter.
Riverbeds shift, tracks erode, and old trip notes expire quickly.
