About the Walk

Overview

Walk along the Coastal Bay trail and bay beaches with views of Port Phillip Bay, Bass Strait & the Southern Peninsula, the native bush of Arthurs Seat, beautiful Seawinds Gardens and some suburban road walking. Involves a very steep climb from Cook Street to Seawinds.

The Walk in Detail

The walk starts at the Memorial Hall (near corner of Sixth Ave and Point Nepean Rd) and follows the Coastal Bay Trail (1) along the foreshore and the beach to McCrae Lighthouse (2).  Cross Point Nepean road, follow Beverley road to the freeway pedestrian underpass (3). From here, walk west along Bayview rd and turn left (south) into Navigator Street then Bass street then left into Cook Street. You will be climbing all the way on these streets.

Enter the Arthurs Seat State Park at the end of Cook Street (4), turn left (east) and climb very steeply uphill to join with Two Bays Ttrack and continue into Seawinds Gardens (5).  The delightful Seawinds Garden featuring indigenous and exotic formal gardens, along with sculptures by William Ricketts. The Garden is open to vehicles at 8:00am and closes at 5:00pm weekends (late opening until 8pm between November and March).

After walking through the gardens and taking in the lookouts, the route continues to the Flinders Memorial.  Follow the route back to the Two Bays Track and descend towards the bay (north), passing more lookouts (6) to meet Bunurong Track (7).

Follow Bayview Rd walk downhill across the freeway towards the bay until you reach a walking track (8) and go down to the beach and boat ramp. At the beach walk west, going around Anthony's Nose (9) and follow the Coastal Bay Trail and/or beaches past the McCrae Lighthouse back to the Memorial Hall.

Getting There

Drive to Rosebud along Point Nepean Rd until you reach the Memorial Hall (near corner of Sixth Ave and Point Nepean Rd, Melways 158 D12).  If you would like to shorten the walk you can park at the Eastern Lighthouse (near corner of Beverley Rd and Point Nepean Rd, Melways 158 K10).

Walk Precautions

May need to walk over coastal rocks at Anthony's Nose. Watch for cars when walking on suburban streets.
