About the Walk

Overview

This walk follows an old bridle trail which was once the route from the Wonnangatta to Wangaratta.  Features river scenery, river flats and perhaps deer and trout.  Involves ten stream and river crossings (5 out and 5 back).

The Walk in Detail

The walk starts at the back of Bennies campground off the Cobbler Road.

The track is not signposted but follow the 4WD track from the back of the campground as far as possible. Cross a small stream and head up a prominent gully on your left. Do not follow the river. As you climb gradually keeping the gully on your right you will come across a benched track. The track is tagged with pink tape.

The track climbs to a saddle then descends to meet the Rose River and crosses the river to some river flats at this point. At the end of the flats cross the river again. The track crosses the river twice more before reaching the Wild Horse Gap Track and a pleasant lunch spot. Return via the same route.

Strongly recommended that walkers obtain the relevant Vicmap (see Further Information) before doing this walk.
