About the Walk

Overview

This short circuit of the Red Hill district passes magnificent homes and attractive rural properties;
there are extensive views across farmland towards the coast. After meandering past Coolart Creek,
the walk returns along a section of the Red Hill Rail Trail, where bird life is prolific.

The Walk in Detail

From the car park, walk to Shoreham Rd and cross to the northern side at the crossing. Turn right, cross Arthurs Seat Rd, then veer left into Station Rd, walking along the wide grass verge. There are numerous homes with interesting architectural styles nestled amongst the trees. Upon reaching the intersection with Donaldsons Rd on your left, continue straight ahead along the 4WD power line easement, which runs roughly parallel to Red Hill Rd. The track swings right (E), exiting at Tar Barrel Corner, the intersection of Red Hill Rd and Stanleys Rd. Cross with care and walk along the northern grassy verge of Stanleys Rd. As you head downhill, there are views across farmland towards the ocean.

Just after passing a Conservation Reserve on your left, cross Stanleys Rd and turn right into narrow Tonkins Rd, which descends steeply to Coolart Creek. The road then climbs over the next 400m until it terminates at a small car park. Take the far right-hand path, once a local railway, which is now part of the Red Hill Rail Trail. It ascends steadily, passing through avenues of gum and pine trees before reaching
the Red Hill Bushland Reserve (toilets) once again. Lunch can be enjoyed here in the picnic area.

Getting There

From Wallaces Rd, turn left into Nepean Hwy. At roundabout, go straight ahead onto White Hill Rd C787 to a T-intersection. Turn left into Arthurs Seat Rd; after 2.6km, at T-intersection, turn right into Shoreham Rd for 300m, then left into Point Leo Rd and immediately left into the Bushland Reserve car park on the corner of Callanans Rd. (Melways 191 A7) Distance: 12km
