About the Walk
Overview
A walk through forest along Pumphouse and Stockyard vehicle tracks south of Mt Wilson, taking in the highest point in the Wombat State Forest.
The Walk in Detail
From Nolans Creek Picnic Ground follow Lerderderg Road W for 2km and then turn south onto Pumphouse Track for 3km. At Camp Road turn left (south) to join the Great Dividing Trail (GDT). After 200m leave Camp Road and continue along the GDT south to Gentle Annie Track, crossing the highest point in the Wombat State Forest.
Continue south down Gentle Annie Track to the Spargo / Blakeville Road. 400m south down this road is the halfway point of this walk. Turn left (north) then north east along Hodges Track to link up with Stockyard Track, which is then followed north east to Nolan Ridge Track. Follow this north then north west back to Nolans Creek Picnic Ground.
Getting There
Drive to Blackwood on the Western Highway via Melton and Bacchus Marsh. Take the Greendale-Myrninong Rd and then the Greendale-Trentham Rd to Blackwood. In Blackwood turn west at Simmons Reef Road, drive for about 2km, then about 100m before Garden of St Erth turn right down Wombat Forest Drive (Lerderderg Road). Follow the main road for about 7.5km, cross over a small wooden bridge, park at Nolans Creek Picnic Area on the right.
Walk Precautions
This walk is on tracks frequented by vehicles. In wet conditions some sections could be slippery äóñ boots are recommended.
