About the Walk

Overview

<p>This walk provides excellent coastal coastal views, boardwalks, marshlands, a Wildlife reserve and a Flora reserve.  Car shuffle required.</p>

The Walk in Detail

MT MARTHA – ESTUARY BOARDWALK – THE BRIARS – MT MARTHA PARK – ARBORETUM – MARTHA COVE – SAFETY BEACH

Starting at the Car Park walk towards the estuary (1) and follow the walking track upstream until you reach the boardwalk (2).  Walk along the boardwalk through the marshland past football fields and cross a footbridge over Balcombe Creek (3). Continue along the track on the north side of the creek then cross back to the south side of the creek at the next footbridge (4).

Continue along the track to another boardwalk that goes under Nepean Highway (5), and then walk beside the creek and entrance road to the Briars Park Visitors Centre (6).  The park is open between 9am and 5pm.  Go through the gate and follow the Kur-Bur-Rer Walk in the wildlife reserve.

Walk back to Nepean Highway, turn left (south) and walk uphill along the East side of the road reserve and cross the Nepean Hwy to Mace Oval (7). Go across the oval to Tal Tal cres and follow to Cumberland drive and then to Uralla Rd. Go South past Bay Rd and you will see a creek reserve. Cross the footbridge (8) then walk south along the creek reserve. It may get muddy along here. Follow along the fence line to Hopetoun Ave then South 100m to the Essex Rd Junction (9). Continue along the Hopetoun creek reserve to Norfolk Rd then on to Glencoe Crescent (10). Continue south along the creek reserve track until you reach the large dam on the golf course (11). From here climb West and cross the 18th Tee to the houses fence line, then follow the fence line south to Somerset drive and follow this to Forest Drive (12).

Follow Forest drive until you arrive at the BBQ area (13) at Hearne Road. Walk through the gate into the park and follow the tracks around the Arboretum (14), then past the disused Lookout tower to the Water Tank Track (15) to Forest Drive.  Cross the road to Paramount Crescent and walk downhill to Ellerina Road. Turn right (west) along Ellerina road to Marine Drive (17).  Cross Marine drive and walk past the old bus stop to pick up a track that will take you to the Martha Cove Entrance.

Go through the tunnel (18) past the Yacht Club to the Car Park.

Getting There

Drive to Mt Martha on Nepean Highway.  Turn west at Craigie Rd and then south along Esplanade until you reach the car park at Watson Rd

Walk Precautions

Look out for cars on roads and be aware of flying golf balls on the golf course. Resepect golfers at the 18th tee.
