About the Walk
Overview
This walk has excellent coastal scenery, visit historical sites, disused war bunkers, quarantine station and the site of Prime Minister Harold Holt's disappearance at Cheviot Beach. Car shuffle required.
The Walk in Detail
Starting at the car park descend to the beach and visit London Bridge (1). Return to the car park and follow Wilsons Folly Track (2) north until you reach Defence Road (3). Turn west along the track to Ochilti Road and follow this road north to the Quarantine Station (4). Walk west along Coles Track beside Ticonderoga Bay to Observation Point (5).
The track will travel inland until you arrive again at Defence Road. Cross the road and follow the track to Cheviot Hill Lookout (6). Go along the new Range Area Walk until you come the track to Monash Light. Turn right and follow this track to Monash Light (7). Retrace your steps back to Range Area Track and follow east back to Defence Road (8). Turn right (east) and follow Defence Road about 1.5 kms to the Visitors Centre Car Park.
Getting There
This walk commences at car park for London Bridge (Melways 156 A5) and finishes at the Visitor Centre for Point Nepean National Park (Melways 156 C2). Drive through Sorrento eto Portsea on Point Nepean Rd. Turn left (south) into Back Beach Road and follow for about 1 km, then turn right into London Bridge road. Follow until the end and the Car Park.Walk Precautions
Do not walk off the tracks as there may be unexploded ordnance in some areas. Watch out for cars when walking on roads.
