About the Walk

Overview

The walk explores the largest intact area of bushland on the Peninsula. Diverse vegetation
communities include eucalypt forest mixed with spectacular stands of grass trees. Footbridges cross
small creeks; mobs of kangaroos may be seen and there are distant views of Bass Strait.

The Walk in Detail

Head south-east along the 4WD track parallel to Boneo Rd until you reach the Two Bays Walking Track. Turn left, heading northwards, ignoring a management track and the southern
end of the Long Point Circuit on your left. Turn left into the northern end of the Long Point Circuit, climbing until you reach a fire trail. Turn right (north) here, then right again (east) at
the next intersection, descending to reach the Two Bays Track once again. Turn left for a short distance until you reach the Lightwood Creek campsite (toilets, tables, water) for morning tea.

Climb Lightwood Track, heading roughly west, until you reach the fire trail that runs parallel to Rogers Rd; turn right (north) for approximately 2.5km to Gate 5. Turn right along this fire trail, heading generally eastwards and passing several dams, then have lunch near the ruins of an old shearing shed.

Now follow the Two Bays Track south, dropping steeply to cross a footbridge over Lightwood Creek, then continuing until you reach the junction with Long Point Track, which you'll recognise from the morning leg of the walk. Turn right, continuing along Long Point Track as it climbs west then swings south along the fire break, back to the Highfield car park.

Getting There

From Wallaces Rd, turn left onto Nepean Hwy. At roundabout, turn right on C777/B110 for 1.5km, then left onto Morninton Peninsula Fwy M11 for 10.5km to a T-intersection. Turn left onto Boneo Rd C777 for 11.3km. Park in Highfield car park on LHS of Boneo Rd. (Melways 259 J7) Distance: 28.5km.
