About the Walk
Overview
A walk through beautiful eucalypt forest with luxuriant growth in ferny gullies. The foot track along the Big Pats Creek valley in the initial and final stages of the walk is very pleasant walking.
The Walk in Detail
Starting from the bridge over Big Pats Creek, head south along Smyths Creek Road for 60m, then follow Upper Yarra Walking Track (aka ‘Walk into History’ Track). After crossing Burns Road the track ascends at a moderate rate for approx. 4 km until a junction is reached. Here the route turns to the left, leaving the Upper Yarra Walking Track. After several minutes a relatively flat area is reached, making a good lunch stop. The site of Ezards Mill is near here but is difficult to accurately locate. Continue along the track for approx. 1.5km and after a short climb, Smyths Creek Road is reached. This is the highest point reached on the walk.
Turn left and walk for just over 1 km until Bluey Creek Track is reached. This is an unmarked and disused 4WD track. Follow this track downhill approx. 1.5 km to the valley floor. Turn left briefly onto Burns Road, then right onto Upper Yarra Walking Track. Follow this path for about 5.5 km back to the cars at Big Pats Creek Bridge.
Getting There
From the Warburton Visitor Centre, follow the Warburton Highway (B380) and Woods Point Road (C511) for 4.5 km, turn right onto Riverside Drive, then left after 0.6 km onto Big Pats Creek Road. The walk starts approx. 2.5 km along Big Pats Creek Road at a bridge.Walk Precautions
The track may be slippery and is steep in places.
