About the Walk

Overview

A circuit walk from Nolan Creek Picnic Ground, this walk offers a varied forest experience: the fern covered gully on Stockyard Track, the devastation caused by recent storms and the lovely forest of the Wombat SF.

The Walk in Detail

The Pioneer Sawmill Loop Walk of 300 metres may be completed before or after the walk.  At the Picnic Area, cross the bridge to the East and walk 100m to Nolan Ridge Trk. Turn right and follow the signed Lerderderg Track for 3 km. At Nolan Creek Rd, turn right for 650m. At a sharp corner, follow the LT signs west along Stockyard Creek for 2km. At the T intersection, turn right. At Camp Rd, walk north to the signed Pumphouse Track on the right, before Balt Camp.   After 130 metres, take the left turn to follow Pumphouse Track in a generally northerly direction towards Lerderderg Rd. Walk about 2.4 kms and take an unnamed track east. Soon after leaving Pumphouse Track there is a large tree on the track which is easily avoided.

About 500 metres after leaving Pumphouse Trk, at another track intersection, walk north for 1km to reach Lerderderg Rd. Turn right, east, and follow this to Nolan Creek Picnic Ground.

Getting There

From Trentham muster point turn right onto Falls Rd, and drive 750m to the intersection of Cosmos Rd, then turn right.  Drive for 13.2 kms to Blackwood, then turn right onto Simmons Reef Rd.  After 150m veer left to stay on Simons Reef Road, and continue for 1.3 kms to Hills Rd, then drive a further 500m to Lerderderg Rd. Drive NW along Lerderderg Rd for 7.3kms to Nolan’s Picnic Ground. Driving distance from Trentham via Blackwood: 23.3 kms.

Walk Precautions

Long, steady climb of about 200m for first 6.3 kms of this circuit. After rain, there may be large puddles on the tracks.
