About the Walk
Overview
Scenic walk along running creek. Beautiful Fish Falls & McKenzie Falls.
The Walk in Detail
Beginning from the Zumsteins picnic ground, follow the signposted path to McKenzie Falls. The slightly undulating track closely follows the scenic McKenzie Creek, which is now recovering well from the recent fires and floods. After 2km you reach Fish Falls – a series of picturesque cascades. This is a good spot for a break while you enjoy the sound of flowing water.
Continuing on, a short series of steps takes you above Fish Falls and on up the valley. After about 1km , the track enters an impressive deep gorge. The final approach to the base of McKenzie Falls is via a very well constructed, interesting pathway winding its way up a series of cascades.
Lunch (or morning tea) can be had while taking in the iconic McKenzie Falls. Those who wish, may climb the steep path to the top to view Broken Falls (this is not compulsory). Note that the old kiosk is no longer there after being destroyed in the 2014 fires, however, there are toilets if needed.
Return to the cars by retracing your route.
NOTE: For those opting to climb to the top of McKenzie Falls, the total walk distance will be 8km return.
