About the Walk
Overview
From Red Hill South, this hilly walk traverses picturesque farmlands; majestic old pine trees line Punty Lane. After scrambling across a creek and ascending a short off track section, the route briefly detours<br /> through a vineyard sculpture walk before returning to the start.
The Walk in Detail
From the car park, follow Shoreham Rd SW for 500m, then turn right into Beaulieu Rd, which descends to a creek. Follow the foot track on the left uphill for 400m to a white metal gate and the eastern end of Stony Creek Rd. This is an ideal morning tea spot, with views over vineyards.
Continue west as Stony Creek Rd drops and climbs once again, ignoring side roads, to reach Mornington-Flinders Rd. Turn left (S) for 400m on the horse track parallel to the bitumen, then left (SE) down Tucks Rd, where there are magnificent views. Remain on Tucks Rd for 4.6km, crossing Shands Rd, to the intersection with Punty Lane.
Turn left (NE) for 250m to the end of the Lane, then follow the narrowing track on the left between pine trees to Stony Creek. Expect fallen trees. Some logs span the creek; the far side is steep and may be slippery. Head NE up the ridge through the narrow strip of bush until you meet the northern section of Punty Lane, following it uphill to Shoreham Rd. Turn left, then immediately cross Shoreham Rd to the Montalto vineyard. The sculpture walk is accessed through a gate on the right (before the restaurant).
Leaving the vineyard, turn right (NW) across the car park and follow Shoreham Rd for 3.2km, using adjacent foot tracks, until you reach Baynes Rd on the right. Take this for 700m then cross Point Leo Rd to the Bushland Reserve (toilets) and the end of the walk.
Getting There
From Wallaces Rd, turn left into Nepean Hwy. At roundabout, go straight ahead onto White Hill Rd C787 to a T-intersection. Turn left into Arthurs Seat Rd; after 2.6km, at T-intersection, turn right into Shoreham Rd for 300m, then left into Point Leo Rd and immediately left into the Bushland Reserve car park on the corner of Callanans Rd.
