About the Walk

Overview

This walk circles the Eumeralla Scout Camp northeast of Anglesea. There should be abundant wild flowers, some wildlife; and occasional spectacular views of the ocean and coast.

The Walk in Detail

From the carpark near the bowling club head towards the river, pick up the riverside path (1) and follow it to the point. Follow the beach around the point to a boat ramp and safety sign 89W (2). Turn left up the boat ramp then turn right and look for a gate to a fenced path at the edge of the caravan park then follow the Surf Coast Walk for 4 km until it crosses Hurst Rd (3). Turn onto Hurst Rd and follow it around two dog-legs – one left and one right –until a junction at a sharp right bend with a boomgate on the left and a mound of earth in front (4). Go through the gate and follow the track for 600 m to an intersection and turn right on the track marked “5” and with a wooden head at the entrance (5). This is Grumpy Hippie track and affords nice ridge views. After about 1.5 km the track joins a path that runs parallel with the Great Ocean Road (track 15). Turn left and follow it, eventually meeting track 14 which emerges near the entrance to the Scout Camp (6). Cross the Great Ocean Road carefully, climb over the mound of red earth and turn left down a track parallel to the road until it meets Firebreak Track. Turn right into Firebreak Track and follow that to Camp Road. Turn right, walk about 30 metres along Camp Road, then turn left along a fence line between private property and bushland. Follow the fence for 100 m, turn right and follow this rough track running parallel with Camp Road until it comes out into a car park (7). Cross the car park and turn left and follow the dirt track until it meets Coalmine Rd, head left onto the track heading south from the junction and follow it until it joins Bingley Parade. Follow the river down Bingley Parade and walking track to return to the cars.

Getting There

The walk starts in the Anglesea town centre which is a 30 minute drive east from Lorne. Parking is available just past the bridge and roundabout. The group will gather at the car park on the south (sea) side of the Great Ocean Road.
