About the Walk

Overview

This circuit walk follows the Lerderderg Track from Nolan Creek Picnic Ground to Balt Camp, (ruins of a forest camp for male refugees from the Baltic States after WW2). It then returns via OlsenTrack/Lerderderg Rd. Enjoy the semi-rainforest on Stockyard Creek.

The Walk in Detail

At the picnic ground it is worth following the old Firth Sawmill circuit, 300 metres. At a 4wd track, turn left almost immediately towards the creek to return to the Picnic Ground.

Back at the Picnic Area, cross the bridge to the east and walk 100m to Nolan Ridge Trk. Turn right and follow the signed Lerderderg Track for 3 km. At Nolan Creek Rd, turn right for 650m. At a sharp corner, follow the LT signs west along Stockyard Creek for 2km. At the T intersection, turn right. At Camp Rd, walk north to the Balt Camp ruins on the left.

After lunch behind the ruins, continue North on Camp Rd for approximately 2.0 kms, then turn Right (NE) onto Olsen Track. Follow Olsen Track for 1.2 km to Lerderderg Rd. Turn right, East, and follow for 2.3 Km to Nolan Creek Picnic Ground.

Getting There

From Trentham muster point turn right onto Falls Rd, and drive 750m to the intersection of Cosmos Rd, then turn right.  Drive for 13.2 kms to Blackwood, then turn right onto Simmons Reef Rd.  After 150m veer left to stay on Simons Reef Road, and continue for 1.3 kms to Hills Rd, then drive a further 500m to Lerderderg Rd. Drive NW along Lerderderg Rd for 7.3kms to Nolan’s Picnic Ground. Driving distance from Trentham via Blackwood: 23.3 kms

Walk Precautions

Very long, steady climb of 200m for first half of this circuit, then a further hill steepish hill at the 9 km point. Be alert for wallabies on the drive into Nolan Creek PG.
