Brimbank Park is located within the Maribyrnong Valley alongside the Maribyrnong River. This area has a rich human history with surveys indicating that Aboriginal occupation extends back as far as 40,000 years and European settlement dates back to the 1830's, soon after Melbourne was founded. The walking includes a mix of flat and hilly tracks both gravel and dirt. Willie Wagtails, Blue Rens, native grasses and Red Gums are just some of the native flora and fauna encountered on these walks.
The Park offers 3 walk options - 30 mins, 45 mins and 1 hour. All walks start and finish at the Leaping Lizard Café.
Option 1 - Gentle circuit: 30 min return, walking at a gentle pace. It is very easy with minor undulations. Walking is on gravel and bitumen surfaces.
Option 2 - River Circuit: 45 min return, walking at a brisk pace. This walk is mostly flat but has two short hills. Walking is on gravel and bitumen surfaces.
Option 3 - Fitness Circuit: 1hr return, walking at a brisk pace. This walk is mostly flat but with three extended hills (2 up and 1 down). The walk is along gravel, bitumen and grass surfaces.
Best season: All seasons. There is a good level of shade around Walks 1 and 2 and most of Walk 3 however Walk 3 is best avoided in the heat of the day in summer as there are some exposed sections and hills to walk up and down.
Note: this park will be closed on days of Code Red Fire Rating.
