The VMTC offers a diverse range of bushwalking, cross country skiing, canoeing, liloing (and you thought they were for sleeping on), cycling and canyoning trips. Regular overnight and extended pack carrying trips make up the majority of the VMTC’s programs appealing to those with a spirit of adventure. While the club caters for all levels of difficulty and offers frequent day walks, the level and number of adventurous activities are what makes the VMTC unique. Many of the club trips explore remote locations, including via off-track walking and remote skiing. While the clubs main focus is exploring within Victoria we have a selection of trips each year which visits other states (e.g. south-west Tasmania and the Northern Territory) and countries (e.g. New Zealand and Europe). The VMTC typically walks in smaller groups allowing greater independence, especially when pursuing journeys of exploration. Off-track trips to remote areas require leaders and participants to have well-developed navigation skills and good teamwork, this can be developed further during these trips. The scope of knowledge within the club when it comes to adventurous pursuits is vast and easily tapped. The VMTC not only supports but also participates in environmental projects such as track clearing and maintenance activities. A number of our members are involved in Bush Search and Rescue Victoria (http://www.bsar.org/) The club has regular social events including presentations on a wide variety of topics of interest to its members. These events are usually held at VMTC’s clubrooms in East Melbourne.
