Fun, Friendship and Fitness in Nature

Joining a bushwalking club is a great way to meet new people, improve your fitness and have fun in the outdoors.  There are 60 Bushwalking Victoria Affiliate clubs spread across Victoria and most clubs welcome new members and visitors.

There are clubs of all sizes with many offering walks across Victoria, interstate and even overseas. Most clubs welcome people new to bushwalking and you are certain to find experienced members willing to pass on their knowledge to beginners. Some of our clubs conduct training specifically for people new to bushwalking.  Club membership is low cost, with most annual membership fees ranging from $35-$60.

Most clubs welcoming visitors along for a trial.  Contact the club to discuss your bushwalking experience and find out about the types of activities on their program.  Many clubs also offer other outdoor activities in addition to bushwalking, such as kayaking and cycling, and other social activities.

Bushrangers Womens Walking Club Inc

Introduction

The Bushrangers Womens' Walking Club Inc was formed on April 1 2001 - April Fool's Day in fact, which lends credence to our philosophy of walking.  Having a good time with plenty of walk, talk, laughter and finishing with coffee and cake!

Details

The idea for the women only club was mooted at a large Girl Guide Camp. Many of the leaders were bemoaning the fact that they had no like-minded women to walk with. Consequently the club was formed, a walk planned and a cake made! Many of our foundation members are active in the Girl Guides but membership extends to all women who love walking, talking, laughing and dare we say it, eating! Members come from all over Victoria, communicate and plan by email only and meet for the Annual General Meeting each June.  At this meeting, walks are decided, leaders volunteer their services and decisions are generally decided by consensus. Our annual itinerary of walks includes our monthly walks which often are walks from a weekend base. Twilight walks, pack carries, interstate and overseas walking trips are also included throughout the year. As some of our members are now retired, semi-retired, working part-time or working shifts weekday walking is now possible. Each year a ballot is conducted for the best walk of the year and 'Ned' our replica of our mascot is awarded to the leader of this walk. Our mascot Ned hitches a ride on each walk. Overseas trips have included trekking in Sapa, Vietnam, and hiking from the source of the Thames to the sea along the Thames Path. This was not as everyone suggested a lengthy pub crawl, but an historical and educational ramble! The Bushrangers Womens' Walking Club Inc goes from strength to strength with a growing membership of women who love the bush.
