About the Walk

Overview

This walk has coastal views, rocky reefs offshore, sand beach walking, quiet bays and lookout views.   Car shuffle required.

The Walk in Detail

Starting at the Number Sixteen car park go down to Surf Beach (1) then head west over a rocky area to the Divide (2).  Continue along the track west through natural coastal bush (3) to Prickly Rocks (4).  Walk further to Bridgewater Bay (5) and explore here.

Drop down to Montforts Beach (6) and return to the track at the western end of the beach. Walk to the main track and take the left track up to Mt St Pauls Lookout (7) where you will get a 360 degree view of the Lower Peninsula.  Walk down from here to the steps to Diamond Bay (8) and explore this bay.  Return to the track and walk to the track to the point above St Pauls Beach (9).

Continue on along Coppins track to Ocean beach road and follow the upper track to the first lookout (10) above Sorrento. Continue walking along the track to Coppins Lookout (11).  Return to the track and follow the track down to the lower car park in the Amphitheatre.

Getting There

The walk starts at the Number Sixteen car park Rye Back Beach (Melways ref: 158 D12 ) and finishes at Sorrento Amphitheatre Back Beach car park (Melways 156 J9). Drive to Rye on Point Nepean Road and turn left (south) at Dundas road. Follow Dundas road almost 3 km to Browns Road roundabout.  Turn right (west) and follow Browns Road 2.3 km to the left side entrance of Number Sixteen car park at Marcia Avenue.

Walk Precautions

Car shuffle required. Be careful near cliff areas, steps to beach may be slippery after rain. Watch out for cars when walking on main roads.
