About the Walk
Overview
An easy but interesting walk with a mixture of interest including lovely tracks, the underground river and a great view over the Buckland Valley. 180m gradual climb.
The Walk in Detail
The walk follows a foot track along the northern edge of Lake Catani, crosses Eurobin Creek just below the wall of Lake Catani, then climbs slowly south to the View Point from where there is a good view over the Buckland Valley far below.
Retrace your steps for about 800m and join another foot-track that takes you north-east past the underground river on the way to the chalet. There is a climb out of the valley where the underground river is located, so go at your own pace.
On the return trip back to the car you have the option of following a track (shown in red on the map) back around the Monolith. The tracks are all typical of Mt Buffalo plateau with beautiful vegetation and massive granite rocks.
Getting There
Drive towards Bright via Hume Highway, Wangaratta and Myrtleford. Take the turn off to Mt Buffalo near Porepunkah. Drive up Mt Buffalo and continue driving south (that is take the right fork just after you reach the plateau level – the left fork goes to the chalet) until you reach Lake Catani. The walk starts a delightful picnic spot on the main road, overlooking Lake Catani.
