About the Walk
Overview
This wonderfully varied walk starts in the Australian Garden, a contemporary landscaped space that
showcases the beauty and diversity of Australian flora. Then, moving to bushland, the well-signed
route passes through woodland and wetland habitats, where wallabies and birdlife are prolific.
The Walk in Detail
Walk clockwise around the Australian Garden, taking time to appreciate the flora, landscape art and architecture. The Eucalypt Walk leads to the Gondwana Garden; swing right to pass the
Weird and Wonderful Garden, then cross Melaleuca Spits and turn right over the Arbour Garden Bridge. Keeping the water on your right, skirt to the west of Howson Hill, walking south beside the Rockpool Waterway to the Visitor Centre. Have morning tea here (toilets, shelter).
Briefly head back towards the car park then turn left, following signs to the Woodland Walk. Take Wylies Creek Track until you reach open grassland on your left; head generally south, cross-country, until you reach the main gravel track again. Turn left; you'll pass a dam and pavilion, then reach Lake Track 1. Turn left here, go past Lake Track 2 then turn right into the Wetlands Walk, where wallabies are numerous. After reaching the main track again, the Wetlands Walk turns left. Cross an unnamed track then swing hard right into Manna Walk, which leads to Stringybark Picnic Area (toilets, picnic tables) for lunch.
Take the northern leg of Manna Walk, which crosses Stringybark Drive onto a boardwalk, then turn right into Possum Gully Track, which climbs to meet Trig Track. Turn right, climbing to Trig Point Lookout, the highest hill in the district, then follow the signs for 400m back to the Visitor Centre and car park.
