Replacement of Toilet Block - Ritchie's Hut
 
Parks Victoria are currently in the process of replacing the existing toilet at Ritchie's hut.

The works are scheduled between February and April 2017.

There may be no toilet available for use between this period as the old toilet will be decommissioned. Please ensure you walk at least 100 metres from the river or any water way, dig a hole and bury your waste and toilet paper very carefully.

The walk starts at the Blowhole on Sailors Creek and follows an old water race descending to an old charcoal burning site and then climbing to the basalt plateau west of Daylesford. The walk visits Boots Gully, Henderson Spring and the hamlet of Basalt then descends to Bald Hill Creek. There is a steep climb out of the gully then a gradual ascent to Bald Hill before descending to Tipperary Springs and following the Goldfields Track along Sailors Creek back to the start.

Commencing on part of the Great Dividing Trail and walking north as far as the Chocolate Mill, the route passes evidence of the gold mining era in Beehive Gully. Crossing into the Hepburn Regional Park, the track continues along 4WD tracks, off-track through scrub alongside the highway and unmade back roads through small agricultural holdings up to a ridgeline where there are spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The route continues along unmade back roads with a very steep descent to a ford before returning past a quaint miner's cottage to the cars.

A journey to discover why and how this water race was constructed in 1883-84. This is not just an ordinary water race, this was an engineering wonder that had to be surveyed and cut through one of the harshest and rugged landscapes in Australia.  There are a number of information boards along the walk.  Involves a descent at the beginning and a steady ascent at the end with walk along the ditch being mostly level with good views of the mountains.

The Creswick area was extensively mined from the 1850s to 1880s and evidence of mining activity is still evident.  The walk includes: Blue Waters; St Georges Lake, built as a mining dam for the Creswick State Battery which operated into the 20th century; Cosgrove Reservoir, a water supply for Creswick; and the remains of Eatons Dam wall, built of stone and earth that was breached in 1933 following intensive rain.
