Changes to the Packhorse Track

The walk starts at the Blowhole on Sailors Creek and follows an old water race descending to an old charcoal burning site and then climbing to the basalt plateau west of Daylesford. The walk visits Boots Gully, Henderson Spring and the hamlet of Basalt then descends to Bald Hill Creek. There is a steep climb out of the gully then a gradual ascent to Bald Hill before descending to Tipperary Springs and following the Goldfields Track along Sailors Creek back to the start.

The Darebin City Council describes this park as 'Melbourne's most diverse park'.  The park features natural habitat, a golf course, many picnic areas and a tourist attraction known as Cooper's Settlement.  The walk is a little more challenging in parts, involving some walking on uneven and uphill paths.  There are optional walks to extend the distance for those who want a longer walk.

The Creswick area was extensively mined from the 1850s to 1880s and evidence of mining activity is still evident.  The walk includes: Blue Waters; St Georges Lake, built as a mining dam for the Creswick State Battery which operated into the 20th century; Cosgrove Reservoir, a water supply for Creswick; and the remains of Eatons Dam wall, built of stone and earth that was breached in 1933 following intensive rain.

This is a hard, long walk beginning high up with good views and descending to the Cobungra River and Dibbins Hut, which is set in a beautiful flat by the river. The return route goes past the Red Robin Mine. Involves a 650m height gain (and descent).  Alternatively complete the walk as a 2 day backpack (Medium to Hard depending on fitness).  It is essential that you check the Parks Victoria website prior to visiting this area.

This walk starts on the east side of the road opposite Cresta Valley ski area. Subalpine plant communities and masses of wildflowers are a highlight in late summer.

This is a short but delightful nature walk along Dickson's Creek to the falls where there is a spectacular view over Buckland Valley. 60m climb and descent. Retrace route to the start of the walk.

The walk follows the disused railway line, the Domino Rail Trail that opened in 1880 and closed in 1978.  Walk through open forest between Lyonville and Trentham and visits the historic Trentham Railway Station.  The Trail uses the endangered Powerful Owl as its symbol.

The Grand Strzelecki covers in excess of 100km of walking and hiking tracks stretching from Morwell National Park to Tarra-Bulga National Park and Balook in a 3 or 4 day hike. Divided into segments, the GST can also be walked in shorter sections, ideal for 1 or 2 day hikes.
