Replacement of Toilet Block - Ritchie's Hut
 
Parks Victoria are currently in the process of replacing the existing toilet at Ritchie's hut.

The works are scheduled between February and April 2017.

There may be no toilet available for use between this period as the old toilet will be decommissioned. Please ensure you walk at least 100 metres from the river or any water way, dig a hole and bury your waste and toilet paper very carefully.

Marble Quarry

Follow a jeep track into history to investigate an old marble quarry overlooking the Thompson River.  Marble from the quarry was used in the William Bailey Mansion in Ballarat and also Rupertswood Homestead in Sunbury. Two lecterns in St. Paul's Church, Ballarat East, and a counter top in Australia House, London.

This easy walk is a good introduction to the apline area and high plains.  The walk is on fire trails and beside one of the aqueducts that feed water into Rocky Valley Dam.  Excellent views, interesting vegetation and flowers in spring and early summer.

Melbourne Historic Trees walk

There are hundreds of natural features registered with the National Trust in Melbourne and throughout Victoria. This walk takes us to several magnificent trees that are registered as treasured landmarks while also seeing some of inner Melbourne. The trees range from 70 to over 400 years, indigenous to exotic.  This walk also takes you to many parts of inner Melbourne with many shops, cafes and restuarants along the way.

Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park

Visit the Tubal Cain mining complex with its horizontal chimney, dam, building ruins and several open shafts. Sample mineral water at the Vaughan Mineral Springs where alluvial gold was discovered in July 1851, and where a township called The Junction was formed, together with a market garden.

At 18 km the walk to Mollison's Galleries is one of the longest on the Buffalo Plateau, but it is well worth doing. Mollison's Galleries are actually a series of huge boulders that overlook the Buffalo Valley and Lake Buffalo a long way below. The walk involves a 300m climb (and descent).

Wombat State Forest

This walk in the Wombat Forest features many gold rush artefacts. The remnants of the Andersons timber tramway and the sawdust of the Andersons sawmill can be seen in the firewood cutters' hamlet of Barkstead. The walk also takes in a gold mining dam and remnants of the Barkstead stamping battery.
